Hello! And welcome to Lighthouse Tuition South-West.

After delivering private tuition independently for years, following my work as a Primary Teacher, I noticed a need for more tutors with values similar to mine.
I am very fortunate to have met several highly-skilled, compassionate tutors over the years and am grateful to be able to offer their services to support your children, where I cannot.
We are primary, secondary and SEND specialists who have a proven track record of supporting even the most reluctant learners. We develop learning through bespoke sessions, often incorporating games and interests that your child has.

Our tutors offer travel to your home and we are running small group sessions within the community, in both our Plymouth and Ivybridge Hubs. ​Our sessions are fun, and tailored to the uniqueness of your child to encourage a love of learning for children at all stages of their education journey.

We are also very proud to be supporting EOTAS funded provision within the local area and have extensive experience working with children and young people with EHCPs.

What we offer
Our tutors are skilled and equipped to support in areas of English, reading, phonics, maths and even GCSE English and Maths!. If your child has an upcoming Phonics screening, we offer booster sessions to help prepare them. If you have a reluctant learner in your home, or a child/young person who may have been out of education for a while, our tailored and expertly planned sessions mean your child can learn without even realising they are!
We also offer EHCP and SEND support, EOTAS funded provision, small group sessions and Home Education groups.
Whether your child doesn't enjoy reading or writing, or they find this subject tricky, we can work with them to make phonics exciting again! With our own integrated phonics stories that support school-based systems, your child can learn at their own pace.
For many children, maths can be an area of dread because the answer is either right or wrong. Our approach is to make maths meaningful so they can apply it to their real-world. With practical games and tangible objects, your child can develop their skills.
EHCP & SEND Support
Navigating EHCP and SEND support can be tricky. We have a team of knowledgable and trained staff who can support you with your EHCP & SEND needs, including advocacy services and managing paperwork.

We understand the amazing work parents do to support their children with home education and how learning may look different for these children. That's why we offer sessions specifically for children who are home-educated.
​
Our team continues to grow as we develop partnerships with local teachers with extensive experience and values that match those of our founder, Sophie Hocking. We also have a wonderful Lighthouse Gang who support us in some of our sessions - so keep an eye out for them!

What can you expect from Lighthouse?
Here at Lighthouse Tuition South-West, our sessions offer a playful, supportive approach for children who may feel unsure about learning, lack confidence or struggle in busy environments. Through games, role-play and hands-on activities rather than traditional desk work, children and young people build key skills, resilience, and a renewed love of learning. Each session is tailored to meet children where they are - whether they’re catching up, transitioning from home-schooling or simply needing a boost of self-belief... all in a nurturing and pressure-free environment.
